Dental implants

A dental implant is basically a small cylinder, or a screw. The implant resembles a very thin rod made of metal, and is used to replace the root of a tooth. Usually, it is used for support in the replacement of one or more missing teeth. They are used in a way that they bond with the bone that they are placed in, so that the replacement teeth can have a base that they can hold on to. As we said, the implant is very similar to screws we use in everyday life. The parts of an implant include the main body, and the so-called collar. There are three types of collars, and all of them are used in a way so the dentist can attach the replacement tooth, or teeth on the collar. In this article, we will talk about the types of dental implants and the advantages of using them.

Types of dental implants

There are four types of dental implants. They are the root form, the plate form, the subperiosteal, and the mini dental implants. The root form implants are the ones that are inserted directly into the bone of the jaw. Insertion of the implant in the jaw is the most common way. The root form implant can have the form of a screw, or the form of a cylinder. They are made so that they can hold one or more teeth at once. Usually, patients who wear removable dentures, or patients who have a bridge, opt for the root form implants. The plate form implants resemble a small plate made of metal, which is also inserted into the bone of the jaw. The dentist has to properly prepare the bone, before he places the implant. The dentist makes incisions in the gum tissue. The number of incisions made is dependent on the number of implants you are having implanted. The incisions are then stitched up. The third type of dental implants is the subperiosteal implant. This implant is actually a framework. It is light, and is made according to the anatomy of your mouth. First, incisions must be made, because these implants are placed under the gums, but over the bone of the jaw. This implant in fact replaces several roots, and when the insertion is finished, several teeth can be placed. Mini implants are smaller in size than the regular implants. At first, they were a temporary solution, so that the actual implants could be inserted later on. They are inserted in the bone, but do not fuse very easily with the bone, because if their height.

Advantages of dental implants

The advantages of dental implants are usually of aesthetic value, because they are used for holding the replacement teeth. People who are toothless usually have low self-confidence, because they think that people see them differently because they lack teeth. That is why dental implants are so popular, because people find that they boost their self-confidence, improve their appearance, they can eat properly again, and many more things.
